MAIZE magazine is a finalist for the 59th SPD Awards

4 April 2024

In the running for the Print Medal Finalists of the world’s best creative competition for editorial content is MAIZE Magazine’s issue no.14, dedicated to Desire

The Society of Publication Designers (SPD) is dedicated to promoting and encouraging excellence in editorial design. Since drafting its charter in 1965, it remains the only organization specifically addressing the visual concerns of print and online editorial professionals.

Its renowned annual competition — one of the largest in the world, with thousands of entries worldwide — recognizes creative excellence in design, photography, and illustration, offering a unique overview of the year’s best work across print and digital platforms.

We are part of SPD 59!

It’s a pleasure for us to announce that ‘Desire’ — the second-to-last issue of our magazine,  published in summer 2023 — is officially listed in SPD 59 Print Medal Finalists, together with other amazing international editorial projects, such as The New York Times, The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, Fast Company, and National Geographic (see the complete list here).

The edition has been nominated in the categories of ‘Custom Publishing: Entire Issue’ and ‘Redesign: Entire issue’.

The award-winning projects will be determined by a prestigious jury of leading creatives. From the selected Medal Finalists, the Gold Medal and Silver Medal winners, along with the Gold Medals for the Best of Genre categories will be announced during the 59th Annual SPD Awards Presentation, held in New York in June 2024.

The Desire issue

The MAIZE magazine issue no.14 is a comprehensive, multifaceted, cross-disciplinary exploration of the theme of desire.

What are human beings like when they desire? They are pleasure-seeking animals. Consumers of new products. Subjects who lose themselves in the Other. Seekers of distant stars. In this edition we have abandoned ourselves to desire. We have broken down its meaning, following different paths that speak to us of freedom, rebellion, and awareness.
